
About Margaret
Margaret M. Wittenberg, long recognized as both a pioneer and a contemporary of natural foods cooking has shared her zest for cooking for years, teaching students of all ages about the wonders and delicious flavors that can be enjoyed with good food. As an author of several books and articles throughout the years on choosing and cooking natural foods, New Good Food: Essential Ingredients for Cooking and Eating Well and New Good Food Shopper's Pocket Guide to Organic, Sustainable, and Seasonal Foods are her most recent. Margaret is a frequent guest on food and cooking radio shows, including the Everyday Food radio show on Martha Stewart Living Radio/Sirius Satellite Radio.
Margaret has also devoted much of her life ensuring good food sources remain available. A former member of the USDA National Organic Standards Board, Margaret has also served on many other United States-based and international advisory boards focused on organic agriculture, seafood sustainability, agricultural environmental standards, and farm animal welfare. Currently, she is a board member for The Organic Center, the Whole Kids Foundation, and the American Botanical Council. She has also been dubbed "the conscience of Whole Foods Market" for her guidance of the company's legendary quality standards for over 30 years. In 2005, Margaret was honored with the National Audubon Society's prestigious Rachel Carson Award in recognition of her lifelong work helping to ensure future generations can live healthy lives within a sustainable environment.
