Orange Balsamic Marinated Figs
Easily a dessert as well as a delicious snack, these marinated figs are terrific and easy to make. Orange and cinnamon always go well with figs and the balsamic vinegar enhances the sweetness of all the ingredients and provides a beautiful glaze.
- 6 whole dried Calimyrna figs (about ½-3/4 cup)
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- Dash of cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon orange zest
Combine figs, orange juice, and cinnamon and marinate in the refrigerator overnight to allow the figs to absorb the juice and plump up.
Add 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar to the figs and juice mixture and transfer into a small pan. Bring it to a boil, cover, and reduce the heat to simmer, stirring occasionally, until the figs absorb all the liquid and take on a shiny glaze. Add the orange zest, remove from heat, and allow to cool.
If you don't have the time for the figs to soak overnight in the orange juice, for quicker results. simmer all ingredients over low heat in a small pan until about half of the orange juice is absorbed by the figs and is a bit syrupy.)
