Split Pea Wakame Soup
Serves 4
- 1 cup split peas
- 4 cups water
- 2 ribs celery, cut in 1 inch diagonals
- 3 carrots, cut in 1 inch chunks
- wakame, 4 inch piece
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 bay leaf
- 1/4 teaspoon dried marjoram
- 1/2 teaspoon salt or 1 tablespoonsp tamari shoyu or miso
Rinse split peas to remove any dirt. Quickly rinse wakame in water to remove excess salt. Cut wakame into 1-inch pieces. Add split peas and wakame tot he rest of the ingredients. Bring to a boil, lower flame and simmer 2 hours or until done. Add salt, tamari shoyu, or diluted miso 15 minutes before serving. Garnish with croutons, chopped parsley or scallions.
